EnerJar – the DIY Power Meter
April 18th, 2008
This is a cool little project that will let you measure the power consumption of an appliance.? It’s especially interesting to see how much power your devices use when they’re turned off but still powering clocks, memory, etc.
See enerjar.net.

That is pretty cool, but very expensive compared to a solar powered charger: http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MB3588&keywords=solar+mobile+charger&form=KEYWORD Plus you have to keep buying refills. But if you must charge more than 1 device a day there could be some benefit to the fuel cell. The way the solar charger works it charges some internal batteries during the daytime. Then it uses the internal batteries to charge your device in about 2 hours as opposed to taking all day to charge your device from the solar panel. Note you can find similar solar devices on ebay for less than $15. Of course it is usually more sunny here in Australia.
