May update

Our May newsletter is here. It’s basically a combination of the previous two blog posts. Here are links to some of the resources mentioned (and a few extra):

Taking the Truth to our neighbors

As we saw The Da Vinci Code gaining steam in the media, Liesl suggested that we put together a “Da Vinci Code Movie Pack” for our neighbors. We had 20 copies of The Da Vinci Code: A Companion Guide to the Movie, and put them in manila envelopes along with a copy of Josh McDowell’s book More than a Carpenter and a pack of microwave popcorn. We labeled the envelopes with stickers that said “Da Vinci Code Movie Pack”, “Sleuth the Truth for Yourself” and our name and address.

On Saturday morning we walked through our neighborhood, ringing doorbells and handing out the packs. Everyone that we met was happy to receive the gift. Please pray that those who need to find Jesus do, and that the Christians are built up in their faith.

Da Vinci Answers: Success can be a good problem to have

Josh McDowell, a Campus Crusade for Christ staff member, wrote a book called The Da Vinci Code: A Quest for Answers and adapted it as a podcast.

A podcast is just a series of audio files that you can “subscribe” to so that your computer automatically downloads new episodes as they appear. You can listen to them on your computer or transfer them to an iPod or other portable media player.

Well, this podcast’s popularity exceeded all expectations. I didn’t even realize that it was stored on our web server at Lake Hart until some people started asking me last Thursday why our Internet connection was so slow. I was surprised to see that the downloads of Quest for Answers audio files were using up almost all of our Lake Hart Internet connection. Thankfully, God’s timing was great and we had recently installed a second Internet connection that had just become ready for use. We were able to move the Quest for Answers downloads to that connection until we were able to move the files offsite to a company that can really handle the load. There have been over 100,000 downloads of these files! Right now, it’s the #2 podcast on Apple’s iTunes Music Store:

Check out the podcast here. You don’t even need to use podcast software–you can just listen with your web browser. Let’s all pray that God uses this and all the other great resources out there to show people the true Jesus.

The Family Room

I just learned about an e-newsletter called The Family Room, and it prompted me to take a closer look at the website of FamilyLife, Campus Crusade’s ministry that is “teaching couples God’s blueprints for the family.”
